Robin Hall, the former director of the Urbana Park District and for four years a member of the Champaign County Forest Preserve District board, has resigned his position and will step down as president of the district's foundation.
URBANA — Robin Hall, the former director of the Urbana Park District and for four years a member of the Champaign County Forest Preserve District board, has resigned his position.
Hall also said he was stepping down as president of the forest preserve district's foundation.
His resignation follows a decision by Champaign County Board Chairman Al Kurtz to appoint Bobbie Herakovich to Hall's seat on the forest preserve board. Herakovich is the former director of the Champaign Park District. Her term on the forest preserve board begins July 1.
"I had told Mr. Kurtz that for me to be most effective and helpful to the (forest preserve board) I felt I needed to serve as the liaison between the CCFPD Board of Commissioners and its foundation board. Therefore, I wanted to be appointed to another term on the CCFPD Board of Commissioners. Mr. Kurtz did not agree," Hall wrote in his resignation letter.
Earlier this week, Kurtz said Hall originally told him he didn't want to serve another term, and had recommended Herakovich for membership on the forest preserve board.
"In this entire process, I am most bothered by Kurtz's comments in the newspaper, which had negative implications concerning current board members and the FPD in general," Hall wrote. "Kurtz's statement demonstrates his total ignorance of the current situation and what is currently happening at the Forest Preserve.
"I am not sure who gave him his current views and attitudes, where or how he got them, nor who he is listening to and talking with concerning the CCFPD. He is very misinformed."
Hall said he enjoyed his time on the forest preserve and foundation boards. "We/the Board are currently developing an updated strategic plan, which includes a community-wide resident survey. The future is exciting. The planning process shows us what we need to do and will give us a plan concerning what we do in the next few years," he wrote. "Likewise, working with the members of the Foundation Board has been a great experience. The Foundation has come a long way in the past two years."
