URBANA — A federal grand jury in Peoria on Tuesday indicted an Urbana man for distribution, receipt and possession of child pornography.
The indictment against Shannon Logan, 35, who listed an address in the 1400 block of Scovill Street, supercedes state charges that had been filed against Logan in early June for possession with intent to deliver child pornography.
Logan was arrested May 30 by Urbana police and has been at the Champaign County Jail since in lieu of $100,000 bond. He had been charged with a Class X felony in state court, but federal prosecutors decided to take the case instead. If convicted of federal charges of distribution and receipt of child pornography, he faces five to 20 years in prison for each count.
The charges allege that between March 5 and May 30, he traded images via the Internet of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and kept the images and videos he traded on computer storage devices.
The case was investigated by Urbana police following a tip to the Department of Children and Family Services.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elly Peirson is prosecuting with the cooperation of Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz.
