URBANA – Several jazz musicians will perform at the Iron Post on Thursday evening in a benefit party for the Eastern Illinois Foodbank.
The event, also a birthday party for musicians and jazz fans Jan McCracken, Pat Dessen and Morgan Powell, will be from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Post, 120 S. Race St., U. Among the entertainers will be the Traditional Jazz Orchestra, Boneyard Jazz Quintet and others.
The musicians donating their talents will be Darden Purcell, Jeff Helgesen, Shab Wirtel, Randy Salman, Woody Woodward, Armand Beaudoin, Gary Peyton and Morgan Powell, among others. They suggest for admission a gift of $5 or more as a tax-deductible donation for the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, which feeds more than 40,000 families monthly. For every dollar donated, the food bank buys $10 worth of food.
"If you can't attend, you can still donate," Powell said via e-mail. "Make your checks payable to Eastern Illinois Foodbank and send them to Patricia Hruby-Powell, 2103 Georgetown Circle, Champaign, IL 61821."
