An extended period of challenging mid-winter weather expected across east-central Illinois.
Low pressure aloft will drop southeast out of the Dakotas, and move east across east-central Illinois on Tuesday. This will feature interact with a separate storm system moving in from the Southwest U.S., resulting in an extended period of snowfall through Tuesday night.
The storm system will intensify as it lifts northeast away from the area, causing blustery
Northerly winds which will result in significant blowing and drifting of the snow starting Tuesday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday night.
Snowfall totals of 6 to 8 inches are likely with this system through Tuesday night. The highest amounts are currently expected along and north of the I-74 corridor, with lesser storm totals to the southwest.
