A cold front [2] will push southeastward Wednesday. This set-up will help to generate the next outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms [3], with some possibly locally heavy or severe [4].
Cooler, drier weather takes over for Thursday and Friday.
Above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation allowed fields to start drying out, with most fields still being too damp for proper tillage. Some very limited fertilizer application and corn planting was started late last week.
Topsoil moisture was rated at 50 percent surplus and 50 percent adequate. Oats were 45 percent planted, compared to 13 percent last year and 18 percent for the five-year average.
Winter wheat conditions stood at 9 percent very poor, 21 percent poor, 41 percent fair, 28 percent good, and 1 percent excellent.
