A large, complex storm system [2] will generate additional late-season snow in the central Rockies, while a mixture of rain and wet snow falls from the central High Plains into the Dakotas and Upper Midwest.
Heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop along a trailing cold front over the southern Plains, mid-South, and Corn Belt.
Locally [3], outbreaks of widespread rain, showers and thunderstorms will bring heavy amounts. This system will tap ample moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and bring the potential for rainfall amounts of 1 to in excess of 2 inches. Locally heavier amounts are likely with stronger storms and where rains repeat.
Heavy rains may result in rises and possible flooding [4] on local rivers as well as flooding of open fields and low-lying areas.
