CHAMPAIGN – A Champaign man is accused of a stabbing of a woman at a store in June.
Champaign police arrested Aaron Dobyne, 36, who listed an address in the 200 block of East Hill Street, on Friday, according to Lt. Joe Gallo. He was arrested on charges of attempted murder and aggravated robbery.
The arrest stems from an incident shortly after 10 a.m. June 3 at the Dollar General, 2004 W. Springfield Ave. According to Champaign police, a woman had been shopping in the store and felt a tug on her purse.
When she turned around and would not give up her purse, she was attacked by a man who stabbed her during the struggle. Her injuries were not life-threatening, but she was taken to a hospital, Gallo said.
The attacker ran from the store and was last seen riding a dark-colored mountain bike.
Police were able to develop probable cause to arrest Dobyne, Gallo said.
He was arrested without incident about 9:45 a.m. Friday near Church and Second streets.
Court records show Dobyne had been arrested and charged in another robbery that occurred June 8 in the 600 block of East White Street in Champaign, but those charges were later dismissed.
