URBANA – A Rantoul man was arrested after he reportedly returned to an apartment where a man was beaten and his property taken earlier, according to Urbana police.
Ian A. McLilly, 18, who listed an address in the 800 block of Roselyn Drive, Rantoul, was arrested for felony theft, battery and criminal damage to property, according to the report.
A 19-year-old Urbana man reported that three men stole some of his property while he was briefly away from his apartment early Saturday. He discovered a vacuum, DVD player, PlayStation 2 system and 10 computer games were missing when he returned to the apartment in the 2400 block of Prairie Green Drive about 12:50 a.m. Saturday, the report said.
When he confronted the three men, they battered him, the report said.
The Urbana man locked himself in his bedroom and called 911, the report said. While he was in the bedroom, he heard some things being broken.
When he came out of the bedroom, he discovered a glass dining room table, some dining room chairs, a stereo, a videocassette recorder, a toaster oven, a microwave and oven doors had all been vandalized. Some food had been taken from the freezer, according to the report.
When Urbana police arrived, the men were gone, but they returned to the Urbana man's apartment later, according to Urbana police Sgt. Bryant Seraphin. The men charged into the apartment before they noticed one of the Urbana officers was still there, the sergeant said.
McLilly was arrested, and the other two men got away, he said. The Urbana man and another witness identified McLilly as one of the attackers, Seraphin said.
