URBANA – The University of Illinois School of Music anticipated that tickets for the Jerry Hadley memorial concert Jan. 25 at Krannert Center would be hot, but it didn't anticipate how quickly they are going.
The tickets to the free concert became available Friday morning. By late Friday afternoon, tickets for the main floor were gone.
Tickets remained for balcony seats in the Foellinger Great Hall.
Each patron is limited to four tickets a day. Ticket-holders are being asked to return tickets they won't be using to the ticket office.
Those unable to attend the concert may listen to it live over WFMT 98.7, a classical music radio station in Chicago. The station also will offer a simultaneous broadcast at its Web site at WFMT.com.
WFMT also will present a 30-minute feature to precede the concert, from 7 to 7:30 p.m., and will present an intermission feature as well.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature opera stars and friends of Hadley, a UI alumnus and one of the leading American tenors of his generation.
He died July 18, 2007, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Singers who will perform are Elizabeth Futral, Frederica von Stade, Richard Leech, Thomas Hampson and Samuel Ramey.
