Republicans stonewalled the democrats in congress when Obama pushed to extend benefits for unemployed workers. The Republicans offered no recourse for those unemployed from good paying jobs. The Republicans were holding out until the unemployed caved in having to feed themselves, families, children. The Republicans have no idea or plan to provide for america but do plan for their own increase of wealth at the suffering,, misery and eventual death of those citizens that have trusted these same Republicans to provide for them. This is how the system works but you will fail to find any politician, Republican or Democrat offering a decrease in their pay or benefits which they set based on the taxes we pay for their well being. Why pay for their well being when they fail the well being of America. As long as any american is wanting to work should be provided with a job that pays a salary that at minimum will pay for all necessities and benefits required to support them. As long as any politician fails in meeting this basic need they have no right to any salary, benefits or retirement. Their job is to serve the law abiding people that look to these officials for answers to these basic problems. Now that the House has changed from Democrat to Republican I do fear the Republicans and the measures they will pursue at any cost to any american citizen just so long as it is not they who will suffer. Waiting to see how this unfolds and how many more will suffer or die. Reminds me much of the Nazi of WWII where the methods are now different but the result is the same. Be realistic with yourself and follow the course the Republicans pursue to its end.
PS Democrats nor Obama are not the answer.
OPINION One who is fortunate [4]
OPINION
One who is fortunate enough to not be directly affected by this recession as I am could easily mistake such discourse as an undeserved attack. But, the patient whose medical procedure was denied by her insurance company for many months, then died days after they finally relented and approved it would hardly share that viewpoint, when the truth is revealed without corporate public relations spin. Whether the actions of others in power kill you quickly or make you suffer a slow painful death will hardly make one more sympathetic to their cruelty. I proudly voted for John McCain and was a big fan of Sarah Palin, until her outrageous comment about "death panels" during the health care debate, because we already have death panels in most private for profit health insurance companies.
Starting with the private for
Starting with the private for profit health insurance industry who refuse to insure those that are most in need of insurance and who make sure they price many more beyond their ability to acquire the needed insurance, in excess of 45,000 are dying annually for lack of insurance prior to any further Republican obstruction to a solution to that problem. The $300,000,000 savings annually that could be put into direct health care service payments for less expensive preventative care with the implementation of the Improved Medicare for All would save tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of lives each year, if the Republicans didn't choose to protect their millionaire owners at the expense of the lives of those that made them millionaires. Continuing with the banking industry who borrowed the hard earned taxpayers' money to pay for their greedy gambling with other peoples' money, then refused to lend that money to those who had made much wiser bets on themselves and their jobs, until the bankers' losses destroyed their jobs with the rest of the world's economy, millions have lost their livelihood, their homes, their savings, and the future of themselves and their families. The stress of homelessness and hunger has taken the toll of untold thousands of lives. Yet the Republicans object to the restrictions recent legislation has imposed on them from further engaging in such reprehensible activity. Then there is the credit card industry's predatory marketing to financially stressed college students and young adults to enslave them with their loan sharking practices. The Republicans will probably weaken the recent attempts to prevent consumers from being exploited by exorbitant interest rates which keep them impoverished for life while enriching the millionaires, who are now proposing $700,000,000 be added to the national debt so they can retain another 4 cents of every dollar while demonizing the stimulus program for mortgaging future generations with higher interest payments and taxes. While these and many more of the insidious objectives of the Republicans and their corporate owners are more subtle than those of the Nazis, they are more brutal because they are relentlessly entrenched by the power brokers in society and their effectiveness over the decades has evaded notice because they spend millions on public relations and misinformation in the media to dupe the undiscerning public. One only has to observe the most expensive political campaigns in this country's history to realize there is no length to which corporate special interests will not go in order to preserve their ill gotten privilege to keep exploiting and abusing the socio-economically disadvantaged for their own enrichment. This is the considered opinion of a lifelong Republican, until a personal conversation with my congressman last year revealed that our once proud and honorable party had been totally surrendered to corporate special interests for the destruction of our country and its citizens. Unfortunately only a minority of us thought a decade of hardship was enough. It may already be too late before a majority finally fulfills their civic responsibility to value the privilege to vote enough to give their choices some intelligent consideration, rather than believe what corporate advertising tells them what to think. I can only hope that happens before the deaths, caused by the actions of those who lack any concern for the well being of others, exceeds 6 million if it hasn't already.
Still hardly comparable to
Still hardly comparable to literal gun-to-head killing by the Nazis. More comparable to the 1800s before modern medicine had treatments to avert many health-related deaths. Not saying we couldn't do better but I don't think it helps to stoop to their level with the forum equivalent of an attack ad.
I understand your frustration
I understand your frustration and am glad that you qualified your opinion of 'Republicans in Power' by closing with the statement that 'dems aren't the answer.' Both parties are beholden to the international bankers and corporations only. (Remember Ron Paul saying that 'the Republicans have lost their way?)
However, I would take exception to your belief that 'any American who is willing to work should be provided a job.' A job that pays well doing what? Might you go into a little more detail on this? I don't think that this 'belief' has ever been part of America's heritage. Sorry, I can't buy into this.
sahuoy quote: "Reminds me
sahuoy quote: "Reminds me much of the Nazi of WWII where the methods are now different but the result is the same." This comparison of "Republicans"( is that all degrees?) to Nazis is interesting as to what the new Republican methods for the same results would be to slaughter 6 million people... You mean I won't be herded into a stuffed, suffocating box car, for a long, slow ride and if I survive that, later "deloused"-- to end up in a tangled rigid ball of human corpses, OR sent to help in lamp shade or gold filling extraction duties OR to the fire pits to shove remains in??
You know, all this wish for some magical 3rd party to correct all the ills, is just that: wishful thinking. Those who espouse this surely know the history of the political parties far better than I'll ever care to know. With such a solid history of having only 2 major parties at any one time for all (as far as I know) of this country's history, regardless of occasional name changes, we will be living the rest of our lives with elected officials calling themselves "one or the other".
The only major use I know of for a 3rd party is in the role of spoiler, that is, to subtract enough votes from either major party to affect the outcome, i.e. '68. So, I'd say all those thousands of 3rd party people have a tough road to hoe before they'll even get much scrutiny under the hot lights of the media circus.

P.S. The Holocaust is a most serious subject to me. No part of what I said was intended to be disrespectful.
I'm not sure where he was
I'm not sure where he was going with the 'Nazi' thing either.
'Now that the House has changed from Democrat to Republican I do fear the Republicans and the measures they will pursue at any cost to any american citizen just so long as it is not they who will suffer. Waiting to see how this unfolds and how many more will suffer or die.' - sahuoy
Didn't the Repubs control the House from '94-'08? How many Americans suffered and died because they controlled the House during that time. And wasn't Hitler's aim to create an Aryan 1000-year empire? I fail to see the correlation. Something else for sahuoy to elaborate on...
I'm still waiting on an explanation for his belief that America should implement a Soviet-style society where the government will decide how the labor of those willing to work will be directed.
