Gotta love the weather in Central Illinois.
Early this month, temperatures were in the single digits. Christmas weekend weather was in the upper 20s with plenty of snow. Today, temperatures are in the mid-40s with fog. Tomorrow we could have highs around 60 degress with rain.
You can never really be sure what to expect around here, but Champaign public works crews are not anticipating any flooding problems late this week, says operations manager Tom Schuh.
Sometimes, snow- and ice-covered storm sewer inlets can keep melt water backed up into streets in conditions like these. But Schuh said the inlets that were surveyed today all seem to be draining water as designed, and a modest amount of rain tomorrow shouldn't be a problem.
With thousands of storm water inlets in the city, though, Schuh says residents are invited to clear those drains if they are covered with ice or other debris.
Even though it's not expected, be sure to let me know if you see any flooding today or tomorrow by commenting below, e-mailing me [3] or sending me a message on Twitter [4].
And while we're at it, how are those potholes out there?
