Much warmer weather will be on tap over the weekend, with temperatures climbing into the lower 80s by Sunday. A strong cold front will approach from the west by late in the day, potentially triggering a round of strong to severe thunderstorms Sunday night.
For the remainder of the week, cool, showery weather will overspread the West, while warmth will expand across most areas from the Plains to the Atlantic Coast.
Weekend warmth will be particularly notable across the Midwest, where high temperatures will exceed 80° throughout the central and southern Corn Belt. By early next week, however, Midwestern warmth will be replaced by cooler, wetter conditions.
Elsewhere, showers will continue into next week in the Northwest, but dry weather will return to the Southwest.
