I am dismayed by the church groups trying to stop the casino in Danville. They need to realize that this is everybodys America, and they have no right to dictate to others. Several cities around Illinois are already seeing the benefits of a casino and the sky hasn't fallen. 1000 jobs plus many related new businesses is nothing to ignore. They speak of getting different jobs; however, they have not created one new job. If they did create jobs, they would require church attendance to be hired and then expect a ten percent kick back every payday. The people need work and the schools could benefit from the tax dollars. Until I see the churches pay property taxes and create 1000 jobs with no religious requirement, I will back the casino.
Religion’s have a listing of
Religion’s have a listing of many “sins”. Who, or what, or why these came about is a forever ongoing theological debate, but there is one thing that is certain. Primitive and ignorant people, who cannot fathom microscopic parasites and mental therapy, need simple rules to help assure successful societies.
Hence the sins of pork and many vices.
Gambling is no longer a sin in this country as a gluttonous nanny state, desperate to maintain its ever expanding empire, now taps the blood money of gambling sin in order to ensure the Vampire State’s future.
Like sports, gambling produces nothing. It is a pastime of idle minds and hands. Gambling is a leach upon any society, drawing from its fiscal lifeblood and redistributing the wealth from the least able to loose to the most wealthy to reap.
Two such personal examples:
Several years ago while working for a large financial institution I was at a branch located in a huge Florida retirement community. Entering the back room behind the teller stations I saw a monster pile of cash, upon inquiring as to such a large amount the branch Manager informed me it was “normal”.
Normal? Yes, a couple of times a week the local Native American Casino bus would pull in and pick up residents who had cashed in their CD’s to go gambling. In short spending the next generations money, money that in former years would have gone to helping them achieve the next level.
On a local note, a retired older couple who have taken on part time jobs to supplement an already good retirement income, had to recently file bankruptcy for gambling debts. Their way of celebrating after leaving the Vermilion County Courthouse – why head to the riverboat in Peoria.
Gambling is the final death rattle in any great society, as it consumes time and fiscal resources that could be put into building a greater tomorrow. Instead the state now sanctions further expansion and thus assures the decimation of the social fabric which wraps around us.
Churches think that they have
Churches think that they have the right to tell people what to do. Instead of spending time and money (gained through donations) to lobby, they should be using the money to help the people who are out of work. Those people will not have jobs of the churches get their way.

What do you mean by having or not having a right? Church groups, like everyone else, can address legislatures and councils and peacefully demonstrate in support of their positions, and you may choose to agree or not agree with them.
Church groups aren't stopping
Church groups aren't stopping a casino in Danville. Church groups may not like casinos, but they really don't have the power to stop the construction of a casino. They have the power to elect people to open and close casinos.
Your Governor Quinn is the man responsible for stopping the construction of a casino in Danville.
You say you "back the casino." How, exactly, do you go about doing that? Who did you vote for again? The bill that would put a casino in Danville has already passed the legislature, and is sitting on Quinn's desk waiting for a signature. Quinn is trying to find a way to appease the newly elected Chicago Mayor by putting a big fat casino in downtown Chicago, while stiffing us stiffs in downstate Illinois. Again.
Once again, remember 21,000 plus people in Champaign County voted for him. I hope you're enjoying him.
These slimy no good
These slimy no good politicians are as crooked as any criminal.
Voting doesn't matter. Like there is a difference between repubs and dems?
Chicago is just one example of the farce that goes on with these maggots of society called politicians pretending to be pious and righteous while they pollute humanity.
Voting does absolutely
Voting does absolutely matter. Champaign County voters had the opportunity to change the governor of Illinois. If half the people who voted for Quinn in Champaign and Vermillion counties would have voted for Bill Brady, we would be in a very different situation right now in the state of Illinois.
And Sammeeker - I could be wrong but I took from previous posts that you are in a union or retired from some kind of union... If I'm wrong I apologize. I'm not putting down unions here, but remember that many millions of dollars from union accounts go to elect mostly democrats. Token amounts are given to republicans who either don't have a chance of losing to a dem in a certain area, or just in case a republican would win. You say you didn't vote for Quinn, and I'll take you at your word. But if you're in a union, you helped elect Quinn with your union dues.
And can we please stop with the "make Chicago it's own State" thing. It's never, ever, ever, ever going to happen. Ever. And even if it did it would be bad for us downstaters. You think the University of Illinois would survive without Chi-town residents filling the state coffers? You think Illinois State or Eastern or the U of I or SIU would survive if Chicagoans had to pay out of state tuition to attend? The answer is they would all be decimated. I don't like many of the decisions they make, but the only way to change it is to put a downstate or republican governor in to check the legislature.
You want me to believe that
You want me to believe that Bill Brady is somehow different?
He represented the 88th house district from 1993 to 2000.
Now he represents the 44th senate district since his political appointment in 2002.
He wants to ban all abortions including rape and incest.
And get this: He is in favor of term limits. Ya, sell me that bridge.
He seems no different to me than all them professional politicians.
Nice try blue but no thanks
No I am not union but you
No I am not union but you sound like a union busting repug. You are quite upset by the notion of cutting Chicago loose. Don't say it will never happen. Ask the people who got tired of thing in the former Soviet Union about things never happening. If Chicago is so valuable, how come so much of our money goes up there? How come Danville is full of Chicago transplants straining Section 8, social services and the criminal justice system there? I am not the only one who wants to see Chicago cut loose. If you love them so much, it is only a straight drive north on 57 for you to relocate. You would like it. The churches up there bring in tens of thousands every week.
I didn't vote for him. I am
I didn't vote for him. I am in favor of everything south of I 80suceeding and a new state in the union. Time to cut Chicago loose.
