CHAMPAIGN — Medics working at Memorial Stadium are hustling to keep up with fans having trouble because of the heat.
With mid-afternoon temperatures around 100, University of Illinois police Lt. Roy Acree said emergency workers are dealing with “a lot of heat-related medicals.”
Because the supervisors were so busy, Acree said he wasn’t able to get a number.
“We’re trying to keep up the best we can. We have two busses at the east and west end and the first aid rooms are all filled. We’re in process of getting people from first aid to MTD busses” to cool them down, he said.
The National Weather Service reports a cold front will begin to approach Central Illinois late today, bringing more clouds, a chance of thunderstorms and slightly cooler temperatures later this afternoon.
Much cooler temperatures are expected Sunday through Tuesday behind the front.
