This is a collection of stories that appeared in The News-Gazette on Sept. 11, 12 and 13, 2001.
The newspaper had one morning edition and two afternoon editions then. The first afternoon edition on Sept. 11 had Associated Press coverage and photos from the attacks of that morning, and the final edition had more, inclduing the first local connections -- 17 churches had scheduled prayer services and an airliner had been ordered to land at Willard as all commercial flight was halted.
For the rest of the week, and for some time thereafter, it was a story full of connections to East Central Illinois - from the many University of Illinois accounting graduates who worked at the World Trade Center to the Mahomet native recounting how he walked down the stairs of one of the towers before it collapsed.
These stories previously have not been generally available online. In virtually every case, references to times, dates and people are as they were on the dates of publication.
