JAMAICA — Emergency workers rescued a man from a grain bin Tuesday morning at the grain elevator in Jamaica.
Two men were in the grain bin cleaning it early Tuesday morning, according to Roger Miller, general manager of Premiere Cooperative Inc. in Champaign, which owns the grain elevator in Jamaica.
Miller said at about 6:45 a.m. one of the two Premiere employees doing the cleaning became trapped in the grain that was in the bin. Emergency services responded, including Oakwood Ambulance, the Fairmount fire department and the Danville fire department's confined space rescue team.
Miller said the worker was taken out of the bin about 9 a.m. and transported to the hospital, where he was released before noon Tuesday.
Miller said Premiere has safety policies in place, and the company is investigating the incident to determine what happened.
