Coach of The Year: Jeff Butler, Monticello
Why: The 12th-year Sages head coach directed the team to state for the third time in his tenure and the second year in a row. The third-place team finish in Class 1A was the best for the program and the school's first state trophy in any girls' sport.
Season highlight: "As the season was progressing, I thought we had a chance. Everything came together. It was a good group who worked hard and deserved it. My wife (assistant coach Mary Butler) was an important part of it. She was constantly caring about and coaching each individual athlete."
A few of my favorite things: Country & Western ... "Remember the Titans" ... "Hoosiers" ... Farm & Fleet ... Body N' Sole ... Texas Roadhouse ... Bob Evans ... GMC trucks ...to get to Eugene, Ore., to see the track and field stadium.
About Coach Butler: "Sometimes we forget how amazing he is. I've talked to other runners and they haven't had the experiences I've had. He lives and breathes cross-country and is an inspiration. He spends countless hours with cross-country. I don't know when he has time to grade. I wouldn't be where I am without him." — senior Michelle Moyer, who will graduate at the end of the current semester
