URBANA — A Danville man is in police custody after allegedly robbing a man in an Urbana home late Thursday.
Urbana police detective Shaun Cook said officers were sent to the 1300 block of Ivanhoe Way about 11:20 p.m. after a man there reported that his girlfriend's former boyfriend robbed him at gunpoint.
Cook said the 21-year-old woman living there was with a 33-year-old man when she heard pounding on the door. She allowed the visitor, later identified as Christopher Mitchell, 24, of the 1000 block of Clay Street, Danville, into the home.
When the 33-year-old man came into the room where they were, Mitchell allegedly pointed a gun at him and demanded money. The man told police he handed over $12 or $13. He also said Mitchell ordered him to take off his clothes. The man refused and ran from the house and called police.
When officers arrived, they got the woman to come out and learned that Mitchell was still inside. They talked to him but he denied having done anything wrong.
The woman gave police permission to search, Cook said, and in a heating vent they found a silver .380-caliber pistol. Mitchell had $12 cash in his pocket.
He was arrested on preliminary charges of armed robbery, armed violence and unlawful use of weapons.
Cook said Mitchell was in custody by 11:45 p.m.
