CHAMPAIGN — Parkland College police arrested a Champaign woman on Tuesday for "cyberstalking" after she sent repeated emails to a male staff member at the college.
Silver Damsen, 48, who listed an address in the 0-100 block of East Healey Street, Champaign, pleaded innocent on Wednesday to one count of felony cyberstalking.
According to a Parkland College police report, Damsen had been sending repeated emails to a 42-year-old college staff member, including more than 20 emails sent to the man since November.
The report said police contacted Damsen and told her to stop sending the emails to the staff member, but the woman continued to send them.
Police arrested Damsen as she got off a Greyhound bus at the Illinois Terminal in downtown Champaign at 6:23 p.m. Tuesday.
Judge Tom Difanis ordered Damsen to have no contact with the man or his place of employment and set Damsen's next court appearance for Feb. 14.
sigh, artists are rarely understood or appriciated for the contributions they make to society until long after their passing.
Sending unwanted emails is a felony? Jesus, this woman's a creep, but not a felon. Oh, that's right, cops in IL arrest people on felony wiretapping charges for videotaping in public, too.
I would guess that her emails weren't just the "Hey how are you" kind of deal. She's probably been making unwanted advances or threatening the person. If the police got involved and told her to quit sending the person the emails, and she didn't, well she deserves what she gets. Stupid is as stupid does. It will probably get dropped down to a misdemeanor anyhow.
Twenty emails over two months? So she sent him one email every three days, big deal. Sounds like they were in a relationship and she suddenly quit hearing from him and he didn't have the courage to break it off like a man. Happens every day. So he got the Parkland cops to get rid of her? What a wuss!
