The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a wind advisory, effective from midnight tonight to midnight Sunday.
Wind gusts in excess of 40 mph will begin spreading across central Illinois after midnight, reaching the Indiana border shortly before sunrise.
The strongest winds are most likely between 3 a.m. and noon. Then, frequent gusts of 40 to 45 mph are likely into Sunday afternoon before slowly diminishing.
Travelers on north-south roads can expect significant cross winds, making travel difficult. Light weight objects will be tossed about, including Christmas
decorations that may not be solidly anchored to a building or the ground. Some damage to tree branches and power lines will be possible.
A wind advisory means that sustained winds of 30 mph are expected.
