Thousands of college theater students and faculty members will converge on Urbana on Tuesday.
The 2012 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival begins Tuesday at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and runs through Saturday.
The festival is one of several held across the country througout the year.
The festival's organizer, Ansley Valentine, said Champaign-Urbana was chosen to hold the event due to space at Krannert.
He said that allows more people to attend and learn about what college theater programs have to offer.
Valentine, who's also the Director of Theater at Northern Michigan University, said this is the first time the Krannert Center has hosted the festival.
He said he hopes the festival will help spread ideas that will improve college theater programs across the country.
The Champaign County Convention and Visitor's Bureau said the festival will bring in around $1 million of economic impact to the community.
