URBANA — A Rantoul man who police say was upset with a person who rear-ended him in a fender bender accident in north Urbana Thursday has been charged with misdemeanor battery.
Urbana police investigator Tim McNaught said Michael Barker, 38, of the 1500 block of South Pointe Drive, was arrested about 7:45 a.m. Thursday.
McNaught said Barker and another man, James Walters, 55, of the 3700 block of North Cunningham Avenue, Urbana, were both driving south in the 1900 block of North Cunningham. Barker was in the passing lane and Walters in the driving lane when Barker changed lanes and pulled in front of Walters then stopped suddenly. Walters was unable to stop in time to avoid striking the rear of Barker's car, McNaught said.
A witness said Barker, who appeared angry, got of the car, walked back to Walters, and pushed him to the ground, causing him to hit his head on the pavement. Walters got back up and the men argued until police arrived, McNaught said.
Barker was arrested for pushing Walters and Walters was given a traffic ticket for speeding, a police report said.
