TOLONO — A Lake Villa man was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs after he hit a semitrailer tractor truck Wednesday night on Interstate 57.
Illinois State Police said about 11:32 p.m., Matthew B. Calendine, 26, was driving north on 57 when he reached down to pick his cell phone off the floorboard. Police said he was tailgating a vehicle and had to steer to avoid hitting it from behind.
When he did, he overcorrected, lost control and went in the median. His car rolled over several times and crashed into a semi that was headed north on 57.
The driver of the semi, Mark Mikoff, 54, of Loda, was not injured.
Calendine, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was treated and released and later charged with driving under the influence of drugs.
