The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for sleet and freezing rain in effect until 4 a.m. Saturday.
Affected areas include Champaign, DeWitt, Piatt, Vermilion, Christian and Macon counties.
A mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow is expected to push across parts of central and east central Illinois this evening and then taper off late tonight.
Icing from freezing rain may accumulate up to one-tenth of an inch. Snow accumulations will be an inch or less.
Roads and surfaces are expected to become icy from freezing rain and sleet this evening and will remain slippery and hazardous until after midnight.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Drivers should be prepared for limited visibility and slippery roads.
