SAVOY — Goodrich Quality Theatres is considering a renovation of the Savoy 16 theater complex at Savoy Plaza, an area manager for the company said.
At this point, plans for renovation are only conceptual, Heath Thomas said. But the ideas include adding an auditorium, converting an existing auditorium to a community room, putting stadium seating in auditoriums that don't already have it and adding rest rooms.
Thomas said the theater complex has been around for "20-plus" years and it's time to renovate.
The company is working with an architect, Thomas said, but Goodrich is still in talks with the landlord and still dealing with financing for the project.
Thomas said he isn't "100 percent sure" where the new auditorium might be built, but suggested it could be to the south, toward Buffalo Wild Wings.
The auditorium targeted for conversion to a community room would be the complex's smallest.
That auditorium, Thomas said, would be the most difficult to convert for stadium seating, so it might be used to accommodate birthday parties and groups such as book clubs and sewing clubs.
Thomas said Goodrich has already made a "substantial investment" in new digital projection systems for the Savoy 16, and there are plans to add another 3-D screen this spring.
Goodrich Quality Theaters, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., has about 30 theater complexes in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.
In addition to overseeing the Savoy 16, Thomas oversees complexes in Peoria, Batavia and Oswego as well as three complexes in the Indianapolis area and two in central Missouri.
