The National Weather Service has extended a winter weather advisory  for East Central Illinois until 6 a.m. Thursday.
The service says conditions are rapidly changing between snow, rain, freezing drizzle and sleet.
Temperatures are hovering near freezing as warm air is moving into the region and, because of that, a mix of precipitation is falling across the state.
Slick roads are developing and road conditions will likely change throughout the evening.
The highest threat for icing is anticipated north of the Interstate 70 corridor and south of a line from Taylorville to Paris. Any icing will make
for slippery travel conditions.
The advisory includes Champaign, Coles, Douglas, Edgar, Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby, and Vermilion counties.
