CHAMPAIGN — Two local women are inviting the local community to an adult pajama party in downtown Champaign this weekend, hoping to help local kids who don't have warm pajamas of their own.
Nikki Hillier and Marla Deval are holding the party at Boltini Lounge, 211 N. Neil St. C, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, inviting guests to bring one new pair of children's pajamas and $15 or a $20 donation without pajamas.
Guests are also invited to wear their own pajamas and will be eligible for prizes and will receive two drinks and appetizers.
Hillier, the health and wellness program coordinator at the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District, said some of the donated pajamas will go to the local Crisis Nursery and some will be distributed to local schools to distribute to needy children.
"A lot of kids turn up at the Crisis Nursery without pajamas," she said.
Any cash donations will be turned into gift certificates for the Crisis Nursery so they can be used for their needs, said Deval, a former Crisis Nursery board member.
"When you think of being cozy and having a feeling of security, that's kind of what pajamas do for you," she said.
For guests bringing donated pajamas, children's sizes 2T through 16 are preferred.
The first 75 guests will each receive a gift bag for at-home pampering, and those who wear their own pajamas will be eligible for prizes for the frumpiest, most original and sexiest pajamas, the organizers say.
There will also be some pampering and salon services available at the event for free or minimal charges, Hillier said. Several local businesses are donating services and prizes.
