There will be new blood on the Champaign County Board.
Surprise resignations have cost the county board two of its most capable Republican members.
One, Brad Jones, is taking a new job as a bank inspector, and he said he won't have time to continue to serve on the board.
The other, Al Nudo, departed over his disappointment in the nature of politics. Tired of attacks on his character in connection with his race for the Republican nomination to run for the Illinois Senate, Nudo decided to drop out of the Senate race and leave the county board as well.
These are not crippling losses, and they were destined to happen. Neither Jones nor Nudo was running for another term on the board.
But their absences will be felt. Respected professionals in the fields of business and finance, they brought solid experience to their roles as board representatives from District 3 in the Champaign and Sadorus areas.
Now Republicans will have to select their replacements. Both the public and the party's interests will be served if their replacements bring the same bipartisan, can-do, level-headed approach as Nudo and Jones.
