TUSCOLA — A group of trained search and rescue volunteers from Douglas County will go to Peoria County on Saturday to help with the search for a 73-year-old Peoria man who has been missing since Feb. 12.
Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Dick Bickel, coordinator for the Douglas County Ground Search and Rescue Team, said his group responded to a statewide request from the Peoria County Emergency Management Agency, the Peoria County sheriff's office and the Dunlap Fire Protection District for additional help finding John Garrett.
Family members said Garrett was last seen wearing a gray sweater and black corduroy pants. He is not likely wearing a coat, according to Douglas County Chief Deputy Peter Buckley.
Bickel said the Douglas County Ground Search and Rescue Team consists of between 50 and 55 community volunteers who train throughout the year on how to search for missing people.
Bickel said a total of 14 men and women from Douglas County will be taking part in Saturday's search, including two administrators, two group leaders and two five-person teams.
He said the Douglas County group will be given a specific area to search systematically.
