CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man wanted for a November armed robbery of a cab driver was arrested Thursday.
Champaign police Sgt. Dave Griffet said police received a tip that Michael L. Huffman, 31, whose last known address was in the 3400 block of Timberline Drive, could be found at the Econo Lodge on West Bloomington Road.
Detectives found him there in the afternoon and arrested him on a warrant charging him with armed robbery that had been issued Nov. 23. He gave police a statement, Griffet said.
An earlier police report said Huffman was linked to a Nov. 8 holdup of a driver for Express Cab through a cell phone that had been left in the man's cab. The 42-year-old cab driver was robbed at knifepoint by a fare in the 1400 block of North Champaign Street.
Huffman pleaded innocent on Friday on the Class X felony charge. His next court appearance was set for April 3.
