A strong storm system will move through the Midwest today, bringing a variety of weather to central and southeastern Illinois. Severe thunderstorms will be possible over the area southeast of a Jacksonville to Bloomington line through mid-afternoon. Within this area, there is a moderate risk of severe storms along and southeast of Interstate 70, where a few significant tornadoes will be possible during the early to mid afternoon hours.
Very large hail and damaging winds will also be possible. People in the risk areas for severe weather should pay close attention to the latest weather information and pre-plan in the event that warnings are issued for your area. As the storm exits the area, cold air will wrap southeastward into north-central Illinois, where snow could accumulate to around an inch before tapering off in the early evening. All of the precipitation should be out of the area before midnight.
