CLINTON — A monument honoring veterans from DeWitt County was vandalized at a state park over the weekend.
According to a report from the DeWitt County sheriff's office, a marble bench at the center of Veterans Point in Weldon Springs State Park was found broken at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
DeWitt County Sheriff Jered Shofner said detectives are trying to determine when the damage may have taken place and how it happened.
"This monument is a special place," Shofner said. "It's hard to believe someone would show such disrespect."
Persons who may have seen the vandalism or who may have visited the site on Saturday are asked to call the sheriff's office at 935-9507 or Clinton Crimestoppers at 935-3333.
People who provide tips do not have to give their name, and may receive up the $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
