URBANA — A Mahomet man who told police he was upset with a friend for "running his mouth" has been charged with aggravated battery.
Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Carlson said Christian Brainerd, 20, and his friend Johnathan Hardin, 20, of Monticello, were in the 1200 block of North Linview Avenue in Urbana about 2:15 a.m. Thursday when Brainerd became upset with Hardin, reportedly over him taking something from another friend.
Carlson said Brainerd then allegedly punched Hardin in the face four times, drawing blood. Hardin was treated at Carle Foundation Hospital for injuries to his nose and face, and later was released. Carlson said Brainerd told Urbana police that Hardin was running his mouth and admitted that he "snapped" when he hit Hardin.
Judge Richard Klaus set Brainerd's bond at $5,000 and told him to be back in court May 1.
