UPDATED 3:55 p.m.
FARMER CITY - Illinois State Police and the McLean County coroner's office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the Friday night death of a Champaign woman on Interstate 74.
McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling identified her as Jancy M. Hubbard, 39. She was pronounced dead on I-74 eastbound at mile marker 155 near the DeWitt-McLean county line at 11:25 p.m.
Kimmerling said Ms. Hubbard's abandoned vehicle was found alongside the highway. It contained her shoes and purse.
State police at Pontiac continue to look for the vehicle or vehicles that might have hit her just before 10 p.m., using surveillance video from the surrounding area and cell phone tower data.
An autopsy done Saturday revealed she died of multiple injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Kimmerling said toxicology tests on Ms. Hubbard, the results of which may not be available for several weeks, were also done.
Kimmerling said Ms. Hubbard worked in the alumni events office of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois.
Anyone with information about her death is asked to call Illinois State Police at Pontiac at 815-844-1500.
We are so saddened. Miss you always. May God help your family. Tom and Kathy McCoy
