HOMER — Kristi Sanders of Tolono has been hired as the new Heritage elementary and junior high principal, with a starting salary of $86,500, effective next academic year.
Interim Superintendent Allen Hall said Sanders has a strong background and is already up to speed on the new core curriculum that will have to be fully implemented by 2014.
Sanders has been an assistant principal at Thomas Metcalf Laboratory School in Normal since last August. Before that, she worked as a special education coordinator of laboratory schools for Heart of Illinois Low Incidence Association in Normal, as an administrative assistant to the superintendent of Rantoul City Schools and as an itinerant vision teacher for Mid-State Special Education Cooperative in Taylorville.
Sanders holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Illinois State, as well as a bachelor's from Eastern Illinois.
Also Monday, Heritage board members accepted the resignation of fourth-grade teacher Amber Loschen and hired a new third grade teacher, Megan Desmond, both effective next academic year.
