URBANA — Urbana police arrested a man they knew to be wanted on a civil warrant and later found drugs at an apartment where he was staying.
Albert D. Moore, 36, who listed an address in the 200 block of West Beardsley Avenue, Champaign, was being held in the Champaign County Jail Thursday on preliminary charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and cannabis.
Sgt. Dan Morgan said officers saw Moore driving in the 400 block of East Washington Street about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and stopped him because of the outstanding civil warrant. They also knew he was driving on a suspended license, Morgan said.
Morgan said officers smelled the odor of burning cannabis coming from the car. Passenger Beulah Palmer, 22, of the 2400 block of Prairie Green, Urbana, was given a notice to appear in court on a later date for possession of a small amount of cannabis.
Morgan said officers then obtained a search warrant for the Prairie Green address and found evidence that Moore was staying there.
They also found more than 10 ounces of cannabis and about 2 grams of crack cocaine in the apartment, Morgan said.
Judge Michael Q. Jones set Moore’s bond at $50,000 and scheduled his next court appearance for March 30.
