URBANA — An Urbana High School student who allegedly had cannabis for sale at school has been charged with a felony.
Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz said Devontre Newbill, 18, who listed an address in the 1400 block of West Bradley Avenue, Urbana, was charged Wednesday with possession with intent to deliver cannabis.
Rietz said Urbana police reported that a teacher at the high school noticed Tuesday morning that Newbill smelled of cannabis and sent him to the principal.
Police were called and when Newbill was searched, police found 10 plastic bags of cannabis weighing a total of about 17 grams on Newbill, according to the report.
Rietz said Newbill is on probation for a 2009 attempted robbery adjudication he received as a juvenile.
