The Champaign County clerk's office will hold a routine retabulation of some of the ballots cast in the state primary two weeks ago.
County Clerk Gordy Hulten said the state requires the recount after every election. State officials chose six precincts, which is 5 percent of the total number of precincts, and a tabulator is used to count early and absentee voting.
Hulten said the ballots will be run through the tabulating machines on Thursday in exactly the same way as on election night to ensure the accuracy of the count.

Retabulations have not shown any variance in the vote count over recent years.
The retabulation will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Champaign County Election Supply Building at 202 South Art Bartell Road in Urbana. The process is open to candidates and the public.
The canvass of the voting will be held on April 10, when absentee ballots which arrived after election day are counted along with provisional ballots. The election results will be official after the canvass.
Meanwhile, petitions are available for candidates who want to run as independents in the November election in Champaign County.
The petitions are available at the county clerk's office and online [2].
County Clerk Gordy Hulten says independent candidates can circulate the petitions for the county-wide offices of auditor, circuit clerk, coroner, recorder of deeds, state's attorney and county clerk. Independents can also pursue county board seats.
Petitions can be filed between June 18 and June 25 at the county clerk's office at the Brookens Administrative Center at 1776 East Washington Street in Urbana.
