CHAMPAIGN — A Chicago man was injured in an intersection collision on campus late Saturday morning.
Champaign police Sgt. Bruce Ramseyer said the accident happened at First and Green streets at 10:50 a.m. and was the result of one driver running a red light.
Ramseyer said Francis Knowles, 44, of Springfield was driving a truck belonging to Central Illinois Trucking west on Green Street when he apparently ran a red light and hit a sport utility vehicle that was headed north on First.
His truck then ran into an Ameren light pole on the northwest corner of the intersection, knocking it down.
The driver of the Ford Explorer that was hit, Jordan McCann, 21, of Chicago, was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Ramseyer said both drivers thought they had a green light but four witnesses said the light was red for Knowles.
He was issued a ticket for disobeying a traffic control signal.
