URBANA — Two Urbana men already in custody on a number of felony charges stemming from a break-in at an Urbana apartment in December have also been charged with drug offenses.
Terrell Larue, 20, who listed addresses in the 900 block of North Broadway Avenue and in the 1500 block of Hunter Street, Urbana, and Eric Kirk, 25, who listed an address in the 200 block of South Grove Street, were arraigned earlier this week for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
The two were arrested in connection with a standoff in the 900 block of North Broadway Avenue in Urbana on Dec. 12 that resulted in their being charged with armed robbery, residential burglary and aggravated unlawful use of weapons.
Assistant State's Attorney Lindsey Clark said that at the county jail, as another inmate was about to be released on Dec. 13, he informed jail officials that Larue had heroin in his cell.
A search of Larue's cell turned up just over a gram of heroin in nine separate plastic bags. Jail officials then also interviewed and searched Kirk, who was arrested with Larue the day before.
He admitted he also had heroin that Larue had given him the day before. Clark said Kirk had 12 bags containing just over 2 grams in his sock.
Clark said the results of the analysis on the suspected drugs only recently came back from the state crime lab.
Both men are due back in court later this month on the new drug charges.
