URBANA – A man who allegedly sold crack cocaine to a police informant has been criminally charged in Champaign County.
Assistant State's Attorney Steve Ziegler said Urbana police arrested Jaray Davenport, 31, who listed an address in the 2500 block of Clayton Boulevard, Champaign, while he was grilling Wednesday in a yard on Ellis Street in Urbana.
Davenport was charged Thursday with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance for allegedly selling 11 grams of crack cocaine to a source March 8 at a pre-arranged location near Lantern Hill Drive and Smith Road in Urbana.
Although the offense is a Class 1 felony, Ziegler said Davenport is eligible for sentencing as a Class X felon because of prior convictions for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and second-degree murder.
Ziegler said Davenport was also wanted on a warrant issued after he failed to appear for sentencing in an obstructing justice case that netted him 4 1/2 years in prison.
