DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College is accepting applications to its echocardiography advanced certificate program.
The deadline to apply is May 15.
The program was added to the college's health careers options in 2011 in response to the community's workforce needs.
The three-semester, 39-credit hour program includes classroom and laboratory time and more than 1,000 hours of clinical education in order to prepare graduates for national certification examinations in echocardiography given by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
It's designed to start in the fall semester with on-campus classes. The classes will be followed by clinicals in the spring semester and an online course and further clinical experience the following summer semester.
Because this is an advanced certificate program, preferred applicants are registered diagnostic medical sonographers, registered radiologic technologists with cardiovascular experience or registered nurses with cardiac experience. Other allied health professionals with a minimum of an associate degree and cardiovascular experience may be considered on an individual case basis, along with their holding a bachelor's degree or higher.
Current CPR certification also is recommended for all applicants.
