CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man who allegedly threatened to shoot patrons at a bar early Monday morning is being held at the Champaign County jail.
Andrew W. Lewis, 26, who listed an address in the 700 block of Erin Drive, Champaign, asked for more time to hire an attorney on Monday afternoon after he was charged with armed violence, possession or use of a weapon by a felon and possession of a controlled substance.
According to a police report, officers were called to JonEB's Bar & Grill, 123 S. Mattis Ave., C, at 12:06 a.m. Monday after receiving a report about a man behaving in a disorderly fashion.
Police said that Lewis was having an argument with a female friend at the bar when another man intervened, leading to a confrontation between Lewis and the second man. Bar staff told police they overhead Lewis saying he had a gun in his vehicle and threatening to come back with it to shoot the patrons at the bar.
When Lewis saw the bar staff using the telephone, he left the building, where he was located by police. After police allegedly found a stun gun and less than 30 grams of suspected powdered cocaine on Lewis' person and a package of suspected synthetic marijuana nearby, they arrested him and took him to the county jail.
Judge Richard Klaus set Lewis' bond at $25,000 and scheduled his next court appearance for May 1.
In July 2008, Lewis pleaded guilty to manufacture or delivery of between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis.
