At Clinton Lake. Monticello won Friday's sectional championship and will be joined by area schools DeLand-Weldon and Champaign Central at the IHSA Bass Fishing State Finals next month at Carlyle Lake.
Led by Kyle Myler, Greyson Strode and Luke Dunn, the Sages caught five fish weighing 18.84 pounds. Victoria Boley, Savannah Ramage, Garrett Duff and Ethan Cunningham (five fish, 16.17 pounds) contributed for runner-up DeLand-Weldon.
By finishing third, Central advanced to state for the first time. Indy Whalen and Nate Volk helped catch five fish weighing 14.03.
"I'm really proud of the boys," Central coach JOHN WHALEN said. "The conditions were really bad, windy and rough. But they hung in there and really competed."
At Lake Shelbyville. Unity advanced to the state finals, finishing third. The Rockets, led by WILL DEEM, RYAN SPENCER and CAMERON SWEARINGEN caught five fish for 12.33 pounds.
Monticello 10, Sullivan 0. SARA FORAN (four RBI) and ALLIE HISLOPE (RBI) each went 2 for 4 with a double for the Sages. SAM VALENTINE went 4 for 4 in the five-inning victory.
Ridgeview 17, Iroquois West 6. The host Mustangs, who scored nine times in the second inning, got two hits, two RBI and three runs from DANI WASHINGTON. KAYLAR REYNOLDS drove in three runs and ALESHA COLE added three hits. CATHERINE BRAEMER and TAILERE KEISTER each had two hits and an RBI for Iroquois West.
Gardner-South Wilmington 15, Watseka 10. KAT GRIMES went 3 for 4, doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Warriors.
Tuscola 6, Monticello 5. T.J. ONSTOTT and DILLON HOEL each had two hits for the Warriors, who scored four times in the fifth to erase a 4-1 deficit.
Iroquois West 7, Ridgeview 3. TRENTON MILLER doubled and drove in a pair of runs while T.J. FOULKS doubled twice for the Raiders.
Clinton 6, Warrensburg-Latham 0. MARSHALL SPRAGUE fired a one-hit shutout, striking out 12. Sprague's no-hit bid was broken up with two outs in the seventh. ZACH PATE homered.
At Champaign. SUNNY SINGH and ANDREW SKAGGS won singles matches and teamed to win in doubles for Centennial in a 7-2 loss to Troy Triad.
Urbana University 2, Decatur Christian 0. CAMERON GEWIRTH and GRACE LILLY scored two minutes apart in the second half to lift the Illineks.
Track & field
At Normal. Mahomet-Seymour's boys won the Normal Community Invitational with wins from JONATHAN SCHAPP (3,200), MARSHALL GRAHAM (100), CALE McCORMICK (800), MATTHEW CHUPP (400), JOHN BUTCHER (1,600), AUSTIN ARMETTA (pole vault) and DEREK BUNCH (shot put).
Urbana's NICOLE CHOQUETTE won the 800 and 1,600 in the girls' meet.
