CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign school board Monday unanimously voted to fill several administrative positions.
The new assistant superintendent of achievement and equity will be Angela Smith, principal at Franklin Middle School in Champaign.
Susan Zola, principal at Jefferson Middle School, will be the district's assistant superintendent of achievement, curriculum and instruction positions.
The school district's executive director of human resources will be Ken Kleber, currently associate principal at Centennial High School.
They'll start their new jobs July 1.
These positions are all a part of new Superintendent Judy Wiegand's executive team, joining Chief Operating Officer Gene Logas, who currently works in that position, and Laura Taylor, who will begin July 1 as assistant superintendent for achievement and student services.
At Jefferson, Paul Ranstead will serve as interim principal when Zola moves. He's been associate principal at the school since 2009. Catherine Ahsell will become interim associate principal at Jefferson.
At Franklin, Robert Shoda will be interim principal. He has been associate principal at Franklin since 2007. Sara Sanders will assume the role of interim associate principal.
All three hires were made from within the school district.
"There is a common theme among these appointments and that is the depth of experience that these individuals have within the Unit 4 school district," Wiegand said in a school district press release. "I have served in the district for 25 years and strongly believe that we have great schools and a very committed and talented staff."
The school board also approved the appointment of Jaime Roundtree as principal of Barkstall Elementary. He's currently assistant principal at Bottenfield Elementary. He will succeed current Barkstall Principal Trudy Walters, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
"Trudy Walters has provided exemplary leadership at Barkstall and in the district throughout her career, Wiegand said a press release. "We were fortunate to have to make a difficult choice among very qualified candidates to succeed her. I am confident Mr. Roundtree will be an excellent principal, and I invite the community to join me in welcoming him to Barkstall."
The board also approved the hire of April Westerfield as a special education administrator. Westerfield is currently principal at Pavilion Foundation Schools in Champaign, and was formerly a special education teacher in the Champaign school district.
