ALVIN — An Alvin man was hit by a train on the CSX railroad tracks Sunday morning in an apparent suicide, according to the Vermilion County sheriff's department.
Rod Kaag, chief investigator with the department, said a 22-year-old Alvin man, whose name has not yet been released by the coroner's office pending notification of relatives, was struck by a train at 9:30 a.m. Sunday on the CSX tracks near his home in the 300 block of Chicago Street in Alvin.
Kaag said there were several witnesses, including relatives, who saw him walk onto the tracks and lie down in front of the oncoming train.
It's the fourth death involving a person struck by a train on the CSX tracks in the Rossville-Alvin area according to Kaag.
In July 2010, a train struck a woman on the tracks south of Alvin in another apparent suicide. In October 2010, a man who had been drinking, passed out on the tracks in Alvin and was struck by a train, and last summer, a man who had been drinking was sitting on the CSX tracks near Rossville and was killed by a train.
