Demolition is expected to begin early next week in Savoy to make way for a new development.
David Borchers, owner of Borchers Decorating, which is handling the demolition, said the brick building on the southwest corner of Curtis Road and Dunlap Avenue and the house just south of there will be torn down. Borchers said that will take about three weeks.
The development includes a CVS pharmacy at the corner, a McDonald’s restaurant, and possibly a yet to be named specialty grocery store.
Savoy Zoning Administrator Dan Davies said the property will be turned over to the pharmacy chain on May 28 to begin construction.
Davies said the pharmacy is expected to be complete in late October, but added it is unclear when demolition will begin for the McDonald’s site.
Another fast food, a duplicate pharmacy and a duplicate grocery.
Will that attract business?
Boring.
Really disgusting of our local governments to allow this to happen; that is an attractive building from the outside although it probably needs a full restoration.
Why not tear down the unused pages bookstore and save this one?
Unless it's a Trader Joe's, who cares? More of the same crap that already exists in every direction. That's such a great building and one of the only things still standing with any character in that direction. What a crappy choice.
Ummm, another "donalds" so conveniently placed.
