URBANA — A Champaign man accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his employer is due back in court next month.
Thomas Mahon III, 21, who listed an address in the 400 block of Lauterbur Lane, was charged Friday with theft over $10,000.
Mahon is alleged to have stolen $16,190 from the Mobil Super Pantry, 1503 N. Neil St., C, where he was employed as a manager.
Assistant State's Attorney Dan Clifton said representatives of the corporate office had been investigating the store because of shortages in daily bank deposits.
On Saturday, May 5, no bank deposit was made.
When corporate representatives investigated, they found $16,190 in Mahon's vehicle, which he was supposed to have put in the bank, Clifton said.
Judge Richard Klaus explained to Mahon that he faces penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison if convicted. He's due back in court June 26.
