CHAMPAIGN — Retiring U.S. Rep. Tim Johnson, R-Urbana, will hold town-hall meetings in Ford and Iroquois counties next week.
Johnson, who is not running for re-election after serving six terms in Congress, will be at the Clifton Community Building, 330 E. Fourth St., Clifton, at 5 p.m. May 23.
Another meeting is set for 4 p.m. May 24 at the Paxton Civic Center, 601 S. Fall St.
The public is encouraged to attend the meetings. Johnson will discuss ongoing federal issues. Staff members will also be on hand to assist with individual constituent concerns.
After a new congressional district map was approved by the Illinois General Assembly last year, Ford and Iroquois counties were placed in the new 15th and 16th congressional districts. Johnson's hometown was placed into the new 13th District, which runs from Champaign-Urbana southwest to the Collinsville area. Republican leaders will meet this Saturday to select a replacement for Johnson on the general election ballot.
