Ebert impressed by questions at film festival

CHAMPAIGN – Chicagoan Armando Rodriguez was surfing the Internet on Sunday morning when, just by a fluke, he came across a link to Ebertfest.

He noticed that the festival would end that afternoon with a screening of "Baraka" and an onstage discussion afterward with Chicago Sun-Times tech writer Andy Ihnatko and the two men who made the epic, non-verbal film.

"When my friends said, 'Let's go to the lake and play ball,' I said, 'How about going down to Champaign to see Mr. Ihnatko and Roger Ebert and 'Baraka'?" he said.

Urbana native's 'Sita' singing the copyright blues

CHAMPAIGN – Urbana native Nina Paley remembers growing up among scientists and engineers who sought to discover new knowledge and share it with colleagues and communities.

Artists, on the other hand, are terrified of sharing their creative work because they have so little economic power.

Paley is one of the few artists or filmmakers to openly share her work, in particular her animated film "Sita Sings the Blues," shown Saturday at Roger Ebert's Film Festival at the Virginia Theatre.

Dillon relishes law-centered role in political 'Truth'

CHAMPAIGN – Actor Matt Dillon said Saturday night in Champaign that he's intrigued by political films and that not many are being made anymore.

That's one reason he decided to play the part of a prosecutor in director-writer Rod Lurie's thriller, "Nothing But the Truth," shown Saturday night at the 11th annual Roger Ebert's Film Festival at the Virginia Theatre.
